1753: Insurrection aboard the Patientia, bound for Danish West Indies, colony unspecified (voyage 35127)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Danish West Indies, colony unspecified in 1753, the people aboard the Patientia rose against the crew. They had been taken at Christiansborg.

The record gives the numbers as: 275 people were embarked; 146 were landed; 129 died on the crossing.

Captain: Eriksen, Ole. Flag: Denmark / Baltic. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “captured by slaves, recaptured and landed slaves in the Americas.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
