1750: Insurrection aboard the Diligente, bound for Americas (voyage 30559)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Americas in 1750, the people aboard the Diligente rose against the crew. They had been taken at Sierra Leone estuary.

The record gives the numbers as: 44 people were embarked; 40 were landed.

Captain: Le Breton, Charles. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “sold slaves in Americas – subsequent fate unknown.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
