1739: Insurrection aboard the Affriquain, bound for Cap Français (voyage 30342)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Cap Français in 1739, the people aboard the Affriquain rose against the crew. They had been taken at Anomabu, Adja, Agga.

The record gives the numbers as: 340 people were embarked; 260 were landed; 80 died on the crossing.

Captain: Fouré, Nicolas. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “voyage completed as intended.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
