1734: Insurrection aboard the Saint Dominique, bound for Petit-Goâve (voyage 30273)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Petit-Goâve in 1734, the people aboard the Saint Dominique rose against the crew. They had been taken at Windward + Ivory + Gold + Benin.

The record gives the numbers as: 120 people were embarked; 100 were landed; 20 died on the crossing.

Captain: Gosmant. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “condemned – Americas after disembarkation.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
