1732: Insurrection aboard the Hare, bound for Jamaica (voyage 92448)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Jamaica in 1732, the people aboard the Hare rose against the crew. They had been taken at Gold Coast.

The record gives the numbers as: 273 people were embarked; 236 were landed.

Captain: Sacheverell, J. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “sold slaves in Americas – subsequent fate unknown.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
