1727: Insurrection aboard the George, bound for Barbados (voyage 25997)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Barbados in 1727, the people aboard the George rose against the crew. They had been taken at Anomabu, Adja, Agga.

The record gives the numbers as: 121 people were embarked; 109 were landed.

Captain: Smith. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “captured by slaves, recaptured and landed slaves in the Americas.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
