1715: Insurrection aboard the Affriquain, bound for Cap Français (voyage 30051)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Cap Français in 1715, the people aboard the Affriquain rose against the crew. They had been taken at Bight of Benin.

The record gives the numbers as: 467 people were embarked; 362 were landed; 105 died on the crossing.

Captain: Budan, René. Flag: France. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “voyage completed as intended.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
