1686: Insurrection aboard the Expedition, bound for Jamaica (voyage 9844)

African

On a slaving voyage that ended at Jamaica in 1686, the people aboard the Expedition rose against the crew. They had been taken at Calabar.

The record gives the numbers as: 121 people were embarked; 84 were landed.

Captain: Lambert, John. Flag: Great Britain. Recorded outcome, in the database’s words: “sold slaves in Americas – subsequent fate unknown.”

Resistance is recorded only where a surviving document mentions it. The 571 such acts in the record are a floor. Silence in that column is silence in the archive. It says nothing about calm on the ship.
