Des sentences, jugemens et arrêts

Criminal Procedure
Titre II: De la procédure criminelle (On Criminal Procedure)
Chapitre X: Des sentences, jugemens et arrêts (On Sentences, Judgments, and Decrees)

Tous jugemens portant condamnation à la peine de mort, ou à une afflictive, ne pourront être exécutés qu'après avoir été confirmés sur l'appel, par arrêts des juges supérieurs, et soumis à l'approbation ou improbation du roi.

Life lesson: No death sentence or serious punishment can be carried out without appellate confirmation AND royal approval — the king has the final word on every severe sentence.
Notes: Mandatory appellate review + royal approval for death/afflictive sentences. Double safeguard: (1) confirmation by juges supérieurs; (2) royal approbation/improbation. Executive clemency power embedded in judicial process. No severe punishment without sovereign authorization.
