Chapitre VIII: Du Fret (On Freight)

Les marchandises chargées à bord d'un bâtiment sont la garantie du fret. Cependant le capitaine ne pourra les garder à son bord; mais il est bien autorisé à se faire donner caution, et garantie, pour le montant de son fret.

Life lesson: Cargo is the captain's collateral for freight — but he can't hold it hostage on the ship. He must accept a bond instead.
Notes: Cargo as freight security: goods guarantee freight payment. But no possessory lien (captain cannot retain goods on board). Must accept caution/guarantee for freight amount. Balanced approach: security without obstructing commerce.
