Chapitre VIII: Du Fret (On Freight)

Si le bâtiment est frété en partie, l'affréteur ne peut charger que dans la proportion convenue; s'il est frété en totalité, le fréteur ne peut rien charger à bord sans le consentement de l'affréteur, qui en devient, pour ainsi dire, le propriétaire pour le voyage, et seul il a droit aux profits qui peuvent résulter du fret excédant.

Life lesson: A full charterer is practically the ship's owner for the voyage — no one else loads cargo without his say, and he keeps the surplus freight profit.
Notes: Partial charter: charterer loads only agreed proportion. Full charter: fréteur cannot load without affréteur's consent. Full charterer = quasi-owner for voyage. Excess freight profits belong exclusively to full charterer.
