Les causes majeures annulent toutes les conventions; cependant, si les effets de ces causes ne durent que quinze jours, les conventions tiendront; mais s'ils existent pendant un plus long espace de temps, elles seront annullées de droit, sans que les contractans puissent, de part et d'autre, exiger aucune indemnité; elles subsistent, si la cause majeure arrive pendant le voyage; alors, il n'y a pas lieu à augmentation de fret.

Life lesson: Force majeure kills a contract only if it lasts more than 15 days — and if it hits mid-voyage, the freight stays the same.
Notes: Force majeure rules: ≤15 days → contract survives. >15 days → annulled by operation of law, no mutual indemnity. Mid-voyage force majeure → contract survives, no freight increase. Pragmatic 15-day threshold.
