Chapitre IV: Des Obligations du Capitaine (On the Obligations of the Captain)

Le capitaine intéressé à bord d'un bâtiment quelconque, ne pourra, pour son compte particulier, faire aucun trafic, sous peine de voir confisquer les marchandises qu'il aura embarquées; et les voir vendre, pour que le partage en soit fait parmi les autres intéressés, à moins que ledit capitaine ne puisse prouver des conventions contraires et écrites.

Life lesson: A captain who owns part of the ship cannot smuggle private cargo — his goods get confiscated and split among other investors.
Notes: Captain's trading prohibition: no personal trade by captain with ownership interest. Penalty: confiscation of goods + forced sale + distribution to other stakeholders. Exception: written agreements (conventions contraires et écrites) permitting private trade.
