On ne peut contraindre un créancier qu'à recevoir la chose qui lui est due, et non une autre, quoique d'une valeur égale ou plus grande.

Life lesson: You must pay what you owe — not something else, even if it is worth more. The creditor chooses to accept substitutes.
Notes: Specific performance rule: creditor entitled to exact thing owed. No forced substitution (even of equal/greater value). Datio in solutum requires consent. Cf. Code Napoléon Art. 1243.
