Les testamens faits sur mer, dans la forme ci-dessus prescrite, n'auront leur effet que dans le cas que le testateur sera décédé en mer, ou dans les trois mois après son retour à terre et dans un lieu où il n'aura pu employer le ministère d'un notaire pour le refaire dans les formes ordinaires.

Life lesson: A maritime will works only if you die at sea or within three months of landing without access to a notary. Survive longer, and you must make a proper will.
Notes: Maritime testament expiry: effective only if testator dies at sea or within 3 months of landfall without notarial access. Temporary privilege. Cf. Code Napoléon Art. 994.
