La moitié ou les trois quarts des successions dévolues, aux frères ou sœurs, au terme des articles 416, 417 et 419, se partagent entre eux par égales portions, s'ils sont tous de même lit; mais s'ils sont de lits différens, la division se fait par moitié entre les lignes paternelle et maternelle du défunt; les germains prennent dans les deux lignes, et les utérins ou consanguins, chacun dans leur ligne seulement; s'il n'y a de frères ou sœurs, ou descendans d'eux que du côté de la ligne paternelle seulement, ils succéderont à la moitié ou aux trois quarts, à l'exclusion des autres parens de l'autre ligne; et s'il n'existe de frères ou sœurs que du côté de la ligne maternelle seulement, ils exerceront les mêmes prétentions que ceux du côté paternel, et auront droit aux mêmes exclusions.
The half or three-quarters of successions devolved upon brothers and sisters, under Articles 416, 417, and 419, is shared among them in equal portions if they are all of the same bed; but if they are of different beds, the division is made by half between the paternal and maternal lines of the deceased; full-blood siblings take in both lines, and half-blood siblings each in their own line only; if there are brothers, sisters, or their descendants only on the paternal side, they succeed to the half or three-quarters, excluding relatives of the other line; and if there are siblings only on the maternal side, they exercise the same claims as those on the paternal side, with the same exclusions.
