Des Immeubles

Property Law
Titre XI: De la Distinction et de la Nature des Biens (On the Distinction and Nature of Property)
Chapitre I: Des Immeubles (On Immovable Property)

Les terres et les bâtimens sont immeubles par leur nature. Les moulins à sucre, à maïs, à piler le café sont immeubles. Les récoltes pendantes et les vivres sur pied sont immeubles.

Life lesson: The land, the buildings, the sugar mill, the standing cane — all immovable. Henry's Code names the instruments of Haiti's plantation economy by name, fixing them to the soil they exploit.
Notes: Uniquely Haitian adaptation: sugar mills, corn mills, and coffee-hulling mills explicitly classified as immovable. Standing crops (récoltes pendantes) and provisions on the stalk (vivres sur pied) also immovable — reflecting agrarian economy. Cf. Code Napoléon Art. 518-520.
