De l'Adoption

Family Law
Titre VII: De l'Adoption et de la Tutelle officieuse (On Adoption and Official Guardianship)
Chapitre I: De l'Adoption (On Adoption)

Par le fait de l'adoption, le nom de l'adoptant est déféré à l'adopté, en l'ajoutant au nom propre de ce dernier.

Life lesson: The adopted takes on a new name — but does not lose the old one. Identity is layered, not replaced.
Notes: Name addition, not replacement: the adopter's surname is added to the adoptee's existing name. Preserves the adoptee's birth identity while formally incorporating them into the adoptive family. A dual-identity approach.
