Chapitre V: Du Douaire (On Dower)

Les époux peuvent convenir qu'il y aura un douaire pour la femme ; à défaut de cette convention, qui doit être expresse, il n'y aura pas de douaire. La loi n'en connaît point.

Life lesson: Dower exists only if you write it into the contract — the law doesn't create one automatically.
Notes: No customary dower in Haitian law. Must be expressly stipulated. Major departure from French customary law and Code Napoléon.
